From sprint to phase: results from the discovery sprint “Access to Justice”

At the beginning of February, we started our first Discovery Sprint together with the Federal Ministry of Justice (BMJ): As part of the discovery phase “Access to justice: strengthening consumer rights and relieving the burden on the judiciary through digitalization”, two apparently similar concerns were to be jointly evaluated (see also our blog post from 27.01.2022).

On the one hand, the plan to use digital means to provide citizens with simple, low-threshold and fair access to justice, which they can use to enforce civil law claims. On the other hand, the aim is to reduce the burden on the judiciary – specifically courts and their employees. For example, with standardized processes through digital proceedings.

The Discovery Sprint is part of the overarching “Digital Pact for the Judiciary” strategy, which is enshrined in the coalition agreement and has been driven forward by the Federal Ministry of Justice since the change of government.

Stephanie Kaiser

is CPO at DigitalService. She previously made a name for herself as co-founder of three startups and has been a member of the German government's Digital Council since 2018. In 2015 and 2016, she was voted among the "50 most inspiring Women in Tech in Europe." When she's not working, you can find her cycling or scooting on Berlin's streets. To her own surprise, it's the place she's returned to again and again, although Paris, Ho Chi Minh City, Warsaw and Milan were also beautiful places to live.
