Law, but understandable - Legal Design

The law is omnipresent. It regulates the way we live together and has a significant influence on our everyday lives. Be it the rental agreement we have signed, the nature reserve around the corner, consent at the doctor's surgery, the existential visit to the authorities or the ongoing court case over a dented bicycle.

Despite numerous points of contact, for many citizens the legal world seems inaccessibly disconnected from the reality of their lives. Technical jargon, overly complex regulations, incomprehensible guidelines and non-transparent decision-making processes cause uncertainty and frustration. In the worst case, they represent an insurmountable barrier. Legal Design is working to make law understandable and more accessible overall. In this blog post, our colleague Franziska, Legal Designer at DigitalService, explains the discipline – and shows why legal design is also relevant for internal compliance issues.
