Faster Company Formation

Faster and easier company formation in Germany

Setting up a business in Germany is often a bureaucratic and time-consuming process. Founders have to fill out countless forms and wait a long time for responses. Establishing a limited liability company (GmbH), for example, currently takes four to eight weeks on average.

Since October 2025, we have been working with the Federal Ministry for Digital Transformation and Government Modernization on making the company formation process in Germany easier, faster, and fully digital. Ultimately, our long-term vision is to ensure that entrepreneurs can fully establish their businesses online within 24 hours, anywhere in Germany.

We are liaising closely with federal departments, states, municipalities, and existing initiatives on this, looking at the entire company formation process from start to finish and systematically optimizing it. The project has identified initial building blocks for a solution here, in particular:

  • Development of a digital central company formation platform
  • Accelerated issuance of tax numbers
  • End-to-end digitalization of business registration
  • Faster entry in the commercial register
  • Connection of the relevant registers to NOOTS
  • Provision of support for register modernization

Special features

  • “Faster company formation” is a high-impact project within the framework of the Modernization Agenda for the State and Public Administration (federal government). High-impact projects play a particular role and make an important contribution to the targets of the modernization agenda and the coalition agreement.
  • The project embodies interministerial, multilevel cooperation and the systematic consideration and networking of existing initiatives.
  • The goal is to simplify and accelerate the entire company formation process (end to end).
