Senior DevOps Engineer (all genders)

Permanent Employment · Full time or Part time · Berlin + hybrid

About Us

As the federal government's central digitization unit, we measurably improve citizen interaction with the state through user-centric digital services. Beyond our own iterative product development, we drive the digital transformation of public administration by advocating for enhanced framework conditions for digital product development.

Your Responsibilities

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for defining and building platform services that empower project teams to develop scalable and reliable cloud-native applications, ensuring their reliability. You will also cultivate and share expertise in areas such as cloud engineering, SRE, and DevOps across the platform and project teams, and the wider organization. More information about the platform team can be found here.

More about the role

  • You develop and implement tools that streamline platform interaction for developers.
  • You adapt and continuously evolve our existing infrastructure-as-code setups and configurations (Terraform, ArgoCD, Kustomize, Helm).
  • You maintain and manage our clusters and platform services to ensure they remain up-to-date.
  • You identify and proactively address reliability issues in our services and applications.
  • You create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including manuals, concept overviews, best practice guides and reference materials.
  • You provide expert advice and support to teams and their members in resolving technical challenges.
  • If you are passionate about people development, we offer the opportunity to assume disciplinary management responsibility for up to four engineers, potentially outside your immediate project. In this role as a People Lead, you will support their growth through mentoring, coaching and career planning.

Your profile

  • You possess in-depth experience with cloud infrastructure and containerization technologies (Docker, Helm, Kustomize, Terraform), as well as the Kubernetes environment.
  • You are proficient in a relevant programming language (e.g., Go, Python, Ruby, Java).
  • You have a strong understanding of Linux system administration and fundamental networking principles.
  • You are well-versed in DevSecOps, GitOps, Infrastructure as Code best practices, and CI/CD tools.
  • You have extensive experience with one or more major cloud service providers (such as AWS, GCP, Azure), ideally including migration projects.
  • You are committed to continuous learning, readily adopting new languages and technologies and selecting the optimal tool for each challenge.
  • You thrive in agile team environments, valuing constructive discussions and regular feedback.
  • You are solution-oriented, effectively navigating challenges within the context of public administration.
  • You are intrinsically motivated to advance the digitization of public administration.
  • We use both English and German in our daily work.
