NeuRIS: Legal information service published in the test phase
In order to provide better access to federal legal information, the DigitalService has been working with the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection (BMJV) and the Federal Office of Justice (BfJ) since 2022 on the development of a new legal information system (“NeuRIS” project). The “NeuRIS” project consists of two central components: a federal data collection environment and data management system (RIS for legal information system) and a legal information portal for the general public.
In April 2025, the NeuRIS portal team reached a milestone and published a service in the test phase that will facilitate access to federal legal information. API documentation was also published describing how to use the open Application Programming Interface (API). Our aim with the service is to offer an easily accessible, barrier-free and easy-to-use website as well as an open API that provides legal information centrally and free of charge. In this article, we describe the development path, the goals and the functional scope of the service in the test phase and how things are progressing now.
