Thinking about effectiveness goals in the long term: our ideas for sustainable change

Work4Germany brings together experts in new ways of working from the private sector as fellows with employees of the federal administration to redesign collaboration and cooperation—for a modern and sustainable government.

We have been pursuing this goal since 2020. The growing demand from the federal administration underscores just how important the Fellowship is. This is because the departments and teams within the federal administration are home to change agents who want to drive digital projects, processes, and major transformation initiatives more effectively. In 2026, Work4Germany will therefore run three times. Fellows will participate in both the spring and fall cohorts. At the same time, the federal government’s modernization agenda will be supported by seven experienced alumni fellows across all five areas of focus as well as in program management.

This is a good time to look back, as the Fellowship has evolved over the years. At the same time, in this blog post we want to examine the impact we’ve made and how we can continue to scale it in the future.

Hannah Bergmann

is the Project Manager of Work4Germany. She is developing the fellowship further in order to embed digital competence and new ways of working even more effectively in public administration. She has been involved with the fellowship since 2023 and is responsible for designing the program concept. As a committed futurologist, she is part of the network of the same name – and also devotes herself to future-oriented topics in her private life, such as her family and maintaining her neighborhood network.

Michaela Putzer

has been helping to shape the fellowships at DigitalService since 2022. Her main focus is on finding the right partners in the administration and working with the team to further develop the program in terms of content and strategy. She loves to constantly learn new things – about complex administrative topics as well as change processes and human interaction. As a project manager, she always keeps an eye on the big picture and, at the same time, on the crucial details. In her private life, she likes to sort out her thoughts on long runs in nature.
